Materials - Wilson Cobble concrete pavers in their Cedar color blend laid in a muster-k pattern and an existing garden paver the client asked to be saved. Concrete pavers are available in many colors, shapes and textures.
Design - The concrete paver walkway above leads to a patio tucked into a previously underutilized area in the back yard of this Bexley home. The design provides some privacy to the patio area & saves the rest of the back yard for other activities. The ratio of pavement to green space can be an important factor in patio garden design.

Materials - Unilock 6"x9" Coffee Creek pavers were used for the flat work, Wilson EZ Stack tumbled concrete block laid in a running bond for the wall. The pier caps are 2'x2' pieces of natural flagstone called Autumn Brown.
Design -
This patio design and material selection was worked out with the client in just a couple days in order to get the patio built before the sod contractor was scheduled to install the lawn on this newly built house in Lewis Center.

before paver entry

Materials - Various types of pavers and landscape block. The walkway on the right was built reusing the existing pavers. Concrete pavers are made of a mix making them resilient to discriminate use of safety salt during winter.
Design -
An inviting front entry and steps can improve curb appeal while providing a user friendly transition area.
tumbled paver patio

tumbled block steps

Materials - Unilock Brussels Block pavers in a mix of colors in a random pattern were used on the patio floor and Brussels Dimensionals were used to build the walls and steps. The seat walls are capped with cut limestone from Lang Stone. Tumbled, or distressed pavers look very similar to real cobblestone but cost less.
Design:
This client provided design included seat walls; a smart way to get extra seating on a small patio.

Materials - A couple different types of discontinued pavers were used to help stay within the budget of this Lewis Center client. Choosing treated lumber for the steps at the sliding patio door also helped keep cost down.
Design -
A simple design with mostly straight lines is another way to control cost on a paver patio installation.
brick patio

herringbone pattern

Materials - Tumbled clay pavers in a herringbone pattern with tumbled concrete pavers used for the border. A brick patio requires very little maintenance with no chemical sealer needed to prevent color fade. A tumbled paver offers an old world look to a patio that blends in well in older neighborhoods such as Upper Arlington or Bexley.
Design -
The contrasting soldier course highlights the mirrored shape of the arched sun room on the back of this Upper Arlington home. Larger pavers were set vertically around the rear beds as an edging. This is a good way to keep the brick patio clean from the debris that tends to blow around from the raised planting beds around a patio.

flagstone path

Materials - Various types of irregular flagstone, such as Ottawa limestone were used to build these stone paths.
Design -
A flagstone path can be set in a garden bed or through a lawn. Either offers a less formal & less costly option to a paver walk, perfect for a lightly used area of a garden such as a side yard or perennial garden bed.
small patio on a condominium Wilson Cobbles in herringbone pattern
Materials - Wilson Cobble 5"x8" concrete pavers laid in a herringbone pattern with the same paver used for the soldier course border. This is an inexpensive paver that comes in several different color blends, this color chosen for this patio is called Autumn Blend. The concrete block used for the seat wall is Unilock Brussels Dimensionals.
Design -
The goal was to maximize the outdoor space on this Westerville condo by expanding the existing concrete slab off of the walkout basement. The seat wall offers seating for a small patio with little room for additional furniture.
